Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important official said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
