Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on court had led observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He saved four initial break points in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
